Well, it's that time of year again - prepare yourselves for a trip to one of the farthest shores of the Diaspora as we bring you Diaspora Dinner XII, the Jews of India! :)
I am personally very excited about this Dinner, as India has one of the most intrugiing, yet least-known Jewish histories of any part of the Diaspora. I expect all of you will learn some surprising facts about the rich Jewish culture of the subcontinent, as well as enjoying some of the most authentically prepared Indian cuisine you have ever tasted. The Diaspora Dinner crew, ably led by Team Guadiamos, will hopefully dazzle your tastebuds and give you a night to remember for food, serving and atmosphere.
The presentation is already shaping up to be one of the best ever, in my humble opinion, and I do hope you can join us for this signature event. Your participation in the Diaspora Dinner series is what enables Brotherhood to continue supporting Emanu-El as successfully as we have, and we are grateful for your continued support and enthusiasm for this series. :)
As a side note - if you are concerned about the level of spiciness in these dishes - don't worry, we have something for everyone's taste, ranging from mild to hot and everything in between. Dishes will include some classics you know (and love) as well as some unique dishes that could only be found in the most authentic restaurants of India itself - or at a Diaspora Dinner. :)
As for the details:
Diaspora Dinner XII is scheduled on Saturday, June 16, from 6:00 - 9:00 (possibly 9:30, depending on how much fun we are having), at Temple Emanu-El, 1010 University Avenue, San Jose.
Reservations can be made by calling the Temple office at 408-292-0939 or by emailing our reservations guru, Jeff Marsh, at <email removed>. Please do not email reservations back to me, as I will assuredly forget to forward your request to Jeff and that is not a good thing.
Our policy is that reservations will be accepted up until June 9 or until the 80 diner limit is reached - also note that reservations are *not* guaranteed until payment is received in the Temple office. Once the limit is reached, your payment only guarantees your place on the waiting list in case of a cancellation. There will be no refunds for cancellations unless there is a waiting list.
I thank you again for your continued enjoyment of the Diaspora Dinners and look forward to hopefully seeing you on the 16th. To close on a personal note, I am also very pleased to share that my father will be flying in from Connecticut to be my guest at this dinner - if you wanted to know what I'll be like in 27 years, here is your chance. :)
cheers, J (co-president of Brotherhood) H
