Purim Schpiel and Carnival is this Sunday!

Come in costume, parents included!  Here’s the schedule:

9:00 AM Hebrew classes as usual

10:15 AM Jewish studies (Pre-K – Grade 7) classes begin in classrooms***

11:00 AM Purim Schpiel in the sanctuary

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Purim Carnival and Silent Auction

We have a LOT of wonderful activities planned and great items to bid on!

***INSTEAD OF GOING TO T’FILLAH AT 10:15 AM, ALL STUDENTS SHOULD GO DIRECTLY TO THEIR CLASSROOMS.

IMPORTANT PURIM NOTE: If your child is in 2nd grade or below, you must accompany your child during the carnival and activities, for the safety of everyone involved.

Parking restrictions will be lifted for the Purim Schpiel and Carnival, so there will be plenty of spaces on the street.  Please remember however, there is never any parking directly in front of the Temple on University Avenue.  Additional parking is available at the Bellarmine lot with the entrance on Hedding, just east of Myrtle Avenue between Myrtle and Coleman Avenue.

You can pick up your Mishloach Manot bags in the Temple chapel on Friday after Shabbat services, on Sunday at the Purim Carnival, at the Adult Purim Evening on Thursday, March 20th, or after Shabbat services on March 21st.

ESSY, our Senior Youth Group, is going roller skating and out to dinner on Sunday, March 30th.  Roller skating will be from 4 pm to 6 pm at San Jose Skate with dinner following at Buca di Bepo.  Students should be dropped off at San Jose Skate by 4 pm.  Carpools will be provided to the restaurant, where students should be picked up at by 8 pm.  Cost is $20 per person.  For further details and to RSVP, contact Amanda Schmitt at sweetvoiceamanda@earthlink.net or 408-821-0448.

Events for our 4th through 7th grade youth groups are planned for the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.  The next get together will be on April 9th.  (There is no event on March 26th since Hebrew and Religious School are closed for the spring break.)  Here’s the schedule for each event:

6 pm – 6:20 pm                Dinner ($5; RSVP a must)

6:20 pm – 7 pm                Secular school study time (bring homework)

7 pm – 8 pm                     A fun activity

On Saturday, April 5th, you can enjoy Shabbat in Nature at Uvas Canyon Park in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains.  The Minyan Service begins at 10:30 am; the site is reserved from 8:00 am until sunset, so plan on spending as much of Shabbat at the park as you like.  Flyers with more detailed information are available from the Religious School office.

Miranda Katz is holding a bake sale on April 6th immediately following Religious School at 12:30 pm in front of the Temple House to raise money for her mitzvah project.  She is donating her proceeds to the Multiple Sclerosis National Society in memory of her aunt who passed away from this disease last December.  Miranda will become a Bat Mitzvah on May 3, 2008.

For parents of all students in grades 2 through 7, there will be a B’nai Mitzvah orientation in the Temple sanctuary on April 6th from 9 am to 10 am.  This is a terrific opportunity to learn about the requirements for becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah as well as helpful information for parents when planning such an event.
