I want to remind you that there will be a most important meeting of the SAC on this coming Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 7:00 pm in the Temple House. Many of you on our mailing list are receiving these notices but have not yet attended our meetings. If there is only one time this year you will come to a meeting, please let it be now.
Our meeting on the 19th will be to introduce the concepts of our Listening Campaign that I have been telling you about and to formulate our strategy and planning, now that we have joined PACT. This will be followed in August by several training sessions in active listening, conducted by the PACT staff. I would like to encourage all of you to attend this meeting, as it will serve as a kick-off for our efforts aimed at engaging our members in the Temple’s activities for Social Justice. You do not need to be an active member of the Social Action Committee, you only need to be committed to Social Justice and interested in making a difference in our community. You may chose to participate or just to be heard. I have recently posted a Tikkun Olam blog on the Temple website that I hope you will read.
This will be only a short-term project, but one that I hope will stimulate members to consider a longer-term activism. The most important aspect of our efforts is to engage the congregation in a way that will reenergize our Temple. The payoff of the activities we want to support is a new connectedness among our fellow members and a stronger positive feeling for our Jewish traditions of Tikkun Olam.
Again, interested people do not have to join or be a member of the Social Action Committee. Whether or not you participate, all of our volunteers will be trained in active listening, a skill that is most useful in our daily activities and interactions.
Your support has been vital in the past, but now we need it even more as we move forward. Please invite your friends to participate with you and let me know you will attend.
