BET HEBREW IS LEADING TONIGHT’S FAMILY SERVICE AT 7:15PM. The service will be preceded by a Congregational Potluck Dinner, beginning at 6:15pm. Our First Grade class has a special presentation during the service as well. In addition, we’ll be treated to the amazing voices of our wonderful RENANIM JUNIOR CHOIR.

PARENTS OF ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 3 THROUGH 7, COME TO A B’NAI MITZVAH ORIENTATION IN THE TEMPLE SANCTUARY ON MARCH 14, 2010, FROM 11:30 AM TO 12:30 PM. You will learn about the requirements for becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and other helpful information for planning such an event.

On Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the San Francisco Zoo from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, URJ Camp Newman, Camp Swig, and Camp Saratoga Alumni will be hosting its first annual fundraiser! Bring your families, see your friends and enjoy an evening that will feature a special Havdalah, a giraffe feeding, live music, a silent auction, lots of dancing, interactive camp games, and camp-related food and drinks. This upcoming weekend will be full of Purim celebrations!!!!
Here’s what’s happening —
Saturday, February 27th at 7:00 pm in the Temple House
Parents, you are invited to a Temple Emanu-El Adult Purim Evening. Come enjoy the Whole Megillah and a Dance Party! Come in costume. This year we are celebrating the swing era, so think zoot suits and flashy dresses. Live music will be featured by Laurent Fourgo & His Ensemble. Desserts and appetizers (and of course hamentaschen) will be provided. BYO preferred beverages – alcohol and non-alcoholic to share. It will be a fun-filled and Megillah-enhanced evening. This event is open to the community at no charge. Yes, it's FREE. Please RSVP to the Temple Office at 408-292-0939.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A STUDENT IN 2ND GRADE OR BELOW, YOU MUST ACCOMPANY YOUR CHILD DURING THE CARNIVAL AND ACTIVITIES, FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE INVOLVED.

Parking restrictions will be lifted on Sunday, so there will be plenty of spaces on the street. Please remember however, THERE IS NEVER ANY PARKING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE TEMPLE ON UNIVERSITY AVENUE. Additional parking is available at the Bellarmine lot with the entrance on Hedding, just east of Myrtle Avenue between Myrtle and Coleman Avenue.

IMPORTANT PURIM CARNIVAL INFORMATION FROM GREG TURETZKY

Please read this important information from Purim Carnival chair Greg Turetzky!!!!

Purim is almost here! The fun starts next Sunday with a special schedule:
No hebrew classes so kids go straight to Judaic classrooms at 10:15 am.
Purim shpiel in the sanctuary at 11:00 am.
Carnival starts at 11:30 am and goes until 1:30 pm.

Lunch and Tickets. If you have not yet ordered lunch tickets you can still do so. We are keeping the advance pricing open until Tuesday evening. You can send an email to turetzkyg@yahoo.com and we will put your order in. If you have already pre-ordered, your packet will be available Sunday morning for pickup at the ticket table. You can also buy additional tickets there and a limited selection of a la carte food items will be available.

Artistic Help. We have a new game that we would like to add, but it needs to be decorated for Purim. If you can do it before Sunday, please contact me and we can arrange for pickup.

Book Walk. We need more kids books for the book walk. They do not need to be Jewish books, but should be kids books. Please bring in any books in good condition to the office on Wednesday (or Sunday morning) that we can use as prizes in the book walk. It’s a great way for kids to swap books and reuse is better than recycling.

Volunteers If you would like to volunteer we have a few specific areas where we could use your help:
Wednesday 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm to help organize the silent auction
Saturday 11:00 am – 1:00 pm to help prep some of the food for Sunday
Sunday 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm to help with cleanup

Silent Auction and Drawing The Purim carnival is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We have some fabulous items this year including winery tours, theatre tickets, dinners, hotels and lots of outings. We also have a grand prize of a 12M pixel digital camera and printer to give away. Be sure to stop by and bid early, bid often and enter in as many drawings as interest you.

Lastly, we are hoping for good weather, but the carnival goes on rain or shine. Hope to see you there!

Join Rabbi Magat and Cantor Meeka Simerly for a family style Shabbat Minyan, this Saturday. By popular request, our Rabbi and Cantor will be leading a family-style minyan this Saturday, January 30, at 9:00 am, in the Benefactors� Room. This is an age-appropriate service for families with young children.

The Purim Carnival committee is looking for someone to chair the Craft Room. By volunteering for this position, you may choose the type of crafts to include. The Religious School office will assist you in gathering materials on hand, as well as purchasing any new materials that will be needed. Passover Candy and Promise Haggadah sales are well under way. Remember, the deadline for turning in all orders is sunday, February 7, 2010. HAPPY CHANUKAH! Tonight is the first night of Chanukah. CELEBRATE WITH THE TEMPLE COMMUNITY BY COMING TO THE ROCK SHABBAT AND CHANUKAH PARTY BEGINNING IN THE TEMPLE HOUSE AT 7:30 PM. Bring your Chanukiyot, candles, and singing voices for this rockin’ celebration. Stay for the party following services, which will include wonderful fried sufganiyot!

THIS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13TH, IS THE LAST DAY that you can pick up pre-ordered Chanukah Treat Boxes from the Challahs for Dallahs class at 12:45 pm in front of the Temple House.

IT IS ALSO THE LAST SUNDAY THAT YOU ANNA LEVINE IS COLLECTING TRAVEL-SIZE TOILETRY ITEMS AND SAMPLES FROM HOTELS FOR HER B’NAI MITZVAH PROJECT. You can bring any items to the Religious School office. She will be making welcome packets for shelter guests at Inn Vision’s Georgia Travis Center in San Jose.

GIMEL HEBREW WILL BE LEADING THE FAMILY SERVICE AT 7:15PM TONIGHT. The service will be preceded by a Congregational Potluck Dinner, beginning at 6:15pm. Our Second Grade class has a special presentation during the service as well. In addition, we’ll be treated to the amazing voices of our wonderful RENANIM JUNIOR CHOIR.

A BENEFIT CONCERT TO RAISE CAMPERSHIP FUNDS FOR ALL URJ CAMPS will be presented by The American Conference of Cantors in conjunction with the Union for Reform Judaism this SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5TH. The event will begin with Havdallah at 7:00 PM. at Congregation Shir Hadash on 20 Cherry Blossom Lane in Los Gatos. An $18 donation is suggested. OUR VERY OWN CANTOR MEEKA SIMERLY WILL BE SINGING along with many other cantors from the whole Bay Area. Even if you cannot attend, please consider making a donation that will make it possible for more camp scholarships to be awarded. Speaking of camp scholarships, we now have the 2010 YOUTH ENRICHMENT SCHOLARSHIP FORMS (YES), ALSO KNOWN AS CAMPERSHIP APPLICATIONS, in the Religious School office. These forms will soon be available on the Temple website at www.templesanjose.org. If you are considering camp, remember to sign up early to get the session you want because spaces fill up quickly. Deadline for submitting YES forms to the Religious School is office is January 31, 2010. There will be a camp presentation during T’fillah on January 24, 2010. Parents are welcome to join their children and find out about the programs and activities offered by our Jewish camps.

ALL KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES – THIS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, IS YOUR FAMILY EDUCATION DAY! Parents, be sure to join your children for this wonderful day of activities planned by our wonderful Kindergarten teacher, Pam Hoffman.

IF YOU ORDERED A CHANUKAH TREAT BOX FROM THE CHALLAHS FOR DALLAHS CLASS, YOU CAN PICK IT UP THIS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, OR NEXT WEEK, DECEMBER 13TH, AT 12:45 PM IN FRONT OF THE TEMPLE HOUSE.

GREG TURETZKY WILL BE HOLDING A PURIM CARNIVAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE MEETING ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13TH. Attendance by all Temple members is welcome, even if you are not on this committee. The meeting will be here at the Temple; we’ll let you know location and time next week’s e-blast.

A CHANUKAH GAME NIGHT IS COMING UP FOR THE NOAR AND KADIMA YOUTH GROUPS. THIS EVENT IS FOR ALL 4TH – 7TH GRADERS and will be on Wednesday, December 16th from 6 pm to 8 pm here at the Temple. The event is open to both members and non members. A flyer was e-mailed to 4th through 7th grade families with detailed information. If you have any questions, or did not receive the flyer, contact the Religious School office at school@templesanjose.org.

ANNA LEVINE IS STILL COLLECTING TRAVEL-SIZE TOILETRY ITEMS AND SAMPLES FROM HOTELS FOR HER B’NAI MITZVAH PROJECT. You can bring any items to the Religious School from now until December 13th. She will be making welcome packets for shelter guests at Inn Vision’s Georgia Travis Center in San Jose.
