The Rosh Chodesh Festival of the New Moon is an ancient tradition for women
going back to biblical times. It is said that this holiday was given to women
to celebrate as a reward for their refusal to participate in the making of the
"golden calf idol".

Come join us as we mark this holiday every other month with prayer, ritual,
sacred symbols, music, meditation, storytelling and more. In a small, friendly
group, we will meet at the home of Lorie and Shari Kaplan, explore who we are
as Jewish women, reinforce our Jewish identity and deepen our spirituality.
This holiday is truly a sacred time just for you.

Our next Rosh Chodesh is August 28 at 7pm. SPACE IS LIMITED RSVP to Lorie at 267-4563

July 15, 2008

Dear Fabulous and Amazing Knitzvah members and friends,

We have had a very successful year thanks to your participation in our projects. Your response to each of these projects has resulted in an incredible number of items given to our various organizations. Since June, 2007 we have distributed almost 1500 hats, blankets, sweaters, scarves and chair caddies to seniors, immigrants, cancer patients, preemies, infants, children and adults.

Some members of our extraordinarily gifted group have excelled in their contributions and dedication to Knitzvah. They were honored for that commitment at Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley's annual meeting on June 25.

Congratulations to Elyse Elconin Goldberg who is Knitzvah's "GOLDEN NEEDLE VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR" for her creation and loving dedication to the very successful HATS Project which has touched the heart of every donor and recipient. Since February 2008 over 160 hats have been distributed to Stanford Cancer Center and Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. We will be adding additional treatment centers in the coming months. Thank you Elyse.

Congratulations also to this year's Jewish Family Services Outstanding Knitzvah Volunteers:

LeniSue Masters, for her beautiful and abundant creations of "granny square" blankets from her own and other contributor's squares and for always saying yes to managing various projects
Molly Kaufman, for her numerous professional contributions and advice to the success of every Knitzvah project this year
Renee Greene, the warm and welcoming telephone "voice" of Knitzvah
The Chai House Knitters led by Lilyan Stavis: Carol Tumlinson, Faye Feinberg, Harriet Saltzman, Joan Lester, Lee Ingreham, Leone Mercer, Marian Goodman, Marjorie Margolis, Mary Jane Stevenson, and Rebecca Zuckerman for their prolific amount of hats, scarves and blankets which are delivered to JFS every week

The people who were extraordinary last year are still so this year. Our previous year's winners have continued to contribute their skill and dedication to each Knitzvah project and event. Every Fabulous and Amazing member of Knitzvah is exceptional for the kindness, warm heart, loving care and generosity put into every stitch of every item made for our projects.

If you made one item or 50; donated one skein of yarn or 200; gave one pair of knitting needles or dozens; shared your experience and skill or enthusiastically supported someone else's efforts...then you are the reason that Knitzvah has been successful. You are the reason that tears and smiles appear whenever one of our deliveries is made. You are the "mitzvah" in Knitzvah. You are truly Fabulous and Amazing.

See you on Sunday, July 20, 2008 10:30 am
at Jewish Family Services
14855 Oka Road, Suite 202

Sisterhood Happenings

It’s been another busy month for our Sisterhood. You can read all about it in depth, by going to our updated web page at http://www.geocities.com/wote2001/index.html

We started with a very successful donor luncheon where our new board was elected. Over 90 men and women attended this very successful event. Check out the pictures and all the other details at http://www.geocities.com/wote2001/index.html

Next, eight of us traveled to San Rafael for All Sisterhood Day. We joined with women from all over our District to meet, learn and bask in the overwhelming warmth and knowledge of the Women of Reform Judaism. Read about it at http://www.geocities.com/wote2001/index.html

We have agreed to provide the Break the Fast again this year. For more information and pictures from last year, go to http://www.geocities.com/wote2001/index.html

Our new board has planed an exciting summer for you. The names of the events follow. The details, again, can be found on our updated web site at http://www.geocities.com/wote2001/index.html

Please join us on June 29th along with many other women from our area connecting, learning and sharing and having fun at All Sisterhoods Day.

The date is approaching quickly--Sunday, June 29.

Registration and light breakfast from 9AM -9:30AM.
The program starts at 9:30AM, includes lunch and will end by 3:30PM.

The location is Congregation Rodef Sholom in San Rafael.

The cost is $30 per person - WOTE will treat, and help with some of the other expenses. Exact amounts will be determined once we know how many wish to attend.

You are encouraged to carpool on Sunday and enjoy each other's company enroute.
Or you can drive up on Saturday, join several of us for a no host dinner at a reasonably price restaurant, meet our WRJ guest speaker, Blair Marks, hang out and spend the night at the Sheraton 4 Points Hotel ($109 per room/share and split the cost) in San Rafael or take advantage of the offer of some of our Rodef Sholom hosts to stay in one of their homes.

We will discover together about creating caring communities in our congregations from Rebecca Schwartz, Union for Reform Judaism regional expert, about bringing spirituality into our daily lives with one of our own women, Meredith Cahn, who is a mid life career change rabbinical student, about opportunities for women to connect and the benefits of sisterhood membership and involvement, and about reasons to choose a responsibility or leadership role in your sisterhood.

Then, as the day continues and we enjoy lunch together, we will find out how we can use The Torah: A Women's Commentary , how to fund raise on line, how to create and implement effective social action-social justice activities and how to manage our sisterhood dollars effectively.

You will meet sisterhood women from other congregations in our region as well as the women who are leaders in our district....and you will have fun in a relaxed, casual environment.

We urge you to take Sunday, June 29, for yourself, and open your eyes and nourish yourselves and your sisterhoods.

Attached is the corrected registration form and program, again, will all of the information you will need.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to attend and which workshops you are interested in.

Bunny Fisher’s niece is the program director for the Atlanta Boys and Girls Club Swim Program. In the aftermath of the tornado in downtown Atlanta, they have very little help. The children in Carinne Silverman's Boys and Girls after-school and summer swim program do not have bathing suits.

They really need inexpensive flip flops and new or gently used bathing suits from 1st grade to 8th grade size kids (all sizes).

There is a box in the sanctuary lobby to collect these items. Bunny will take care of getting them to Atlanta. For more information, contact Bunny at bunnysilverman@gmail.com Thanks in advance.
We hope you all had a wonderful Passover. Twenty five of us enjoyed a great seder last Thursday organized by Judith Stubbs and Carol Paris and led by Judith Stubbs and Rachael Decker. The food and camaraderie were terrific. Thanks to all those who made it possible.

You’ve heard of cookie exchanges. In honor of Shavuot, we will be holding a Kugel Exchange on Thursday, May 22 beginning at 6 pm in the Temple House. Bring your favorite dairy kugel in a 9 x 13 pan. If you don’t make kugel, bring a potluck salad or main course type food to share. We will be tasting each others kugel with dinner, and refilling our kugel pans with our favorite left-overs (if there are any). A short meeting will follow dinner. RSVP to Harriet Reisner at 226 2842 and let her know what you are bringing.
The last batch of Donor invitations are being put in the mail tomorrow, so if you haven’t gotten yours by this Friday, please let me know. The invitations were designed and donated by JoAnne Hersch. THANKS! JoAnne. We would also like to thank Lynda Chase for working with JoAnne, for chairing our donor and for booking the entertainment. Thanks to our mailing chair, Eleanor Gerstly, and her crew, Libby Kass, Millie Segal and Barbara Berlant, the bulk of the invitations were mailed on Tuesday. They couldn’t have done it without the help of Jane and Marcy, who printed all the labels. All we need now is for you, your friends and family to attend. Send in your response cards NOW, so you don’t forget. Join us at the beautiful La Rinconada Country (arranged for us by Ruth Krandel) for a delicious bruncheon. As you may know, this year our auction is on-line. You can view it at www.templesanjose.cmarket.com and can start the bidding now. We already have some very generous do

ON LINE AUCTION www.templesanjose.cmarket.com

1. In becoming a sponsor for our online auction - as opposed to traditionally supporting our donor - sponsors are offered the opportunity to reach far more people than are "in the room" at a live event. Instead of just having your name and logo in a program , we place your logo on the web, providing a clickable link - and instant accessibility - to your business homepage.

2. By including our auction on Bidding for Good you will have exposure to BiddingForGood's 30,000 unique members from across the United States. Furthermore, the BiddingForGood audience continues to grow daily! You will not only have exposure to our local community, but also to a national audience.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPONSORSHIP

Homepage Sponsorships: For only $150 sponsors will have a logo placed on the homepage of our auction site. The homepage is generally the entry point to our catalog with visitors pausing on the page to learn more about the auction and our organization. The homepage provides a great deal of visibility for sponsors. There are eight positions available in the designated sponsor area of the homepage, plus two call-out boxes towards the top of the page.

Global Sponsorships: For only $500 sponsors will have their logos placed in the right sidebar of every page in our auction site.

Email Sponsors: For only $750 you can be an email sponsor. In addition to having your logo in the right sidebar of every page in our auction site, our email communications can generate sponsorship dollars. Today at Connections 2008, two "Women of Temple Emanu-El" and one daughter of a "Women of Temple Emanu-El" were honored. Barbara Berlant and Jacqueline Haggerty (our Women of Distinction) and Fagie Rosen, who received the Janet Berg Award were surrounded by family and friends. Five tables from the Women of Temple Emanu-El were present to support these wonderful ladies and young lady. More Women of Temple Emanu-El were scattered throughout the ballroom. There are some pictures of the event in the photo gallery. They're not good, but as Bill likes to say, "they beat the heck out of nothing."

After the luncheon, I visited Eva Stanley at Santa Teresa Hospital, where she has been all week recovering from a fall. Eva hopes to go home early this week. She is in Room 635, bed 2.

Our game night on March 1st was a very successful evening. Pictures from there (also not great) are in the gallery, as well.

Join us for a pot luck dinner, short meeting and hamentaschen baking this Thursday beginning at 6pm. To RSVP, please call Harriet Reisner at 226-2842.
There are many members of our community who have been touched by the experience of Jewish summer camp. Many of us are aware of the pending sale of Camp Swig, one of the first Union camps established. The west coast Reform Jewish community, including alumni, faculty, and staff of Camp Swig will be saying goodbye to this magical place on April 6th. If you are an alum of Camp Swig, please consider joining them. If people you know are alumni of Camp Swig, please forward this information onto them, so that they can join in as well.
